Dear Parents of students in Biology 1 CP,
I am very pleased to have your son or daughter in Biology I this semester. This letter will help you understand the routines and expectations of this course. A copy of the homework and grading policy is attached to this letter.
Biology I is a challenging course designed to equip a student with a sufficient background to attempt more advanced work in high school, technical School, or college. The class will consist of lecture, group work, discussion, activities, and laboratory exercises. Each student will be expected to fully participate in all phases of the course.
The major topics covered during the year will be Biological Principles, Cells, Genetics, Evolution, and Ecology. As time permits, there may be a survey of microorganisms, plants, animals, and human biology. The South Carolina State Curriculum Standards will be followed. The Biology 1 Curriculum Standards may be found in the front of the student’s textbook on pages SC 2 – SC 8.
I expect students to conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all times. Students are expected to be in class on time and ready for work. If problems arise which interfere with a student's ability to complete homework or other assignments, I appreciate being informed of such problems so that together we may find a solution. If a student is absent on the day of a previously announced test, the test should be made up the next class day or as soon as possible following the rules of Williston-Elko High School. It is the student's responsibility to arrange for make-up work!
In conclusion, remember that I am here to help. The only way in which I can help is if I know there is a problem. Students need to feel free to ask questions in class and to ask for help when it is needed. If your child does not understand a concept, please make sure he/she asks for help immediately. If you wish to contact me, my planning period is the third block during first semester and the second block during the second semester. You may contact me at school by calling the main office at 266-3110 or calling the guidance office at 266-4968. You may also contact me by email: [email protected]
Again, I look forward to what promises to be an exciting semester.
All good things,
David W. Salter
Dear Parents of Anatomy Students,
I am very pleased to have your son or daughter in Anatomy this semester. This letter will help you understand the routines and expectations of this course. A copy of the homework and grading policy is attached to this letter.
Anatomy is a challenging course designed to equip a student with a sufficient background to attempt more advanced work in technical School or college. The class will consist of lecture, group work, discussion, activities, and laboratory exercises. Each student will be expected to fully participate in all phases of the course.
The major topics covered during the semester will be an introduction to the human body, basic chemistry, cells and tissues, and the major organ systems of the body. There will be several dissection labs to dissect various organs of the cow and sheep. In addition, the students will dissect a rat as the example of a mammal with features similar to the systems of the human. All students are expected to fully participate in all dissection labs.
I expect students to conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen at all times. Students are expected to be in class on time and ready for work.
